HAPPY THURSDAY ALL

Good Thursday to you all . Today we are going to review BEARTOWN by Fredrick Backman.

                        BOOK BLURB

The #1 New York Times bestselling author of A Man Called Ove returns with a dazzling, profound novel about a small town with a big dream—and the price required to make it come true.

People say Beartown is finished. A tiny community nestled deep in the forest, it is slowly losing ground to the ever encroaching trees. But down by the lake stands an old ice rink, built generations ago by the working men who founded this town. And in that ice rink is the reason people in Beartown believe tomorrow will be better than today. Their junior ice hockey team is about to compete in the national semi-finals, and they actually have a shot at winning. All the hopes and dreams of this place now rest on the shoulders of a handful of teenage boys.

Being responsible for the hopes of an entire town is a heavy burden, and the semi-final match is the catalyst for a violent act that will leave a young girl traumatized and a town in turmoil. Accusations are made and, like ripples on a pond, they travel through all of Beartown, leaving no resident unaffected.

Beartown explores the hopes that bring a small community together, the secrets that tear it apart, and the courage it takes for an individual to go against the grain. In this story of a small forest town, Fredrik Backman has found the entire world.

                      MY REVIEW

This was my first book I have read by this author and boy I was not disappointed in the least . This story hit home with me , living in a small town in Canada . Hockey is everything and when something happens in the small town .  On the eve of the big semi final match things get out of control and lives are changed forever . A young girl is traumatized beyond belief and the whole town is in turmoil.  Will everyone survive in the wake of the tragedy ,
This book starts with someone walking into the woods with a shotgun and shooting someone in the head . The murder happens right at the start and the rest of the book is how we got to the murder. The causes and effects of what happened . While trying to win the national semi finals in their hockey league . These kids have such a burden on their shoulders to make their town proud of them and also trying to get out of the small town   Each character is someone you will know . if you lived in a small town . The characters are all complex and all have things that they are hiding and want to keep hidden . The author pulls out all the inner thoughts and demons in his characters . Which makes for a very intense book .
I read this book in the course of 2 evenings . I couldn't put the book down . I was on the edge of my seat for most of the reading. Even though the beginning started off just a little bit slow . I really picked up as you are trying to get to the bottom of the murder and the aftermath that has happened . The story is so involved and complex you will be blown away . The author takes us on a journey that will make you think maybe the bad guys aren't as bad as you think they are and the good guys aren't as good as you thought they were . You will cheer and shed a tear for all of these characters .  This is an intense book that will keep you reading all through the night

GOOD WEDNESDAY EVERYONE

Good Wednesday all , hope your week is going good . Today we are going to review IMPERFECT CROSSROADS  by Marina O' Brix

                            BOOK BLURB

It has been six years now since Sabrina’s father has gone missing. “He is missing out on everything, where could he have gone?” Searching for answers, Sabrina wonders if she will ever reconnect with her mother. Can she hold onto what is so dear to her… her family unit? Can Debra ever love her like she loves Shelby? Can she find someone to love her? Can her life just be normal for once? Can she shine brighter than the darkness?

                          MY REVIEW
This is the second book in The Drive Series . I got this book and sat down to read . The book took me right in the middle of Sabrina's life . Her father has gone missing for 6 yrs and her life has not been idealistic . Her step mom Debra hates her and treats her like a slave . It seems like she can't do anything right in Debra's eyes . Shelby is the daughter that is loved by Debra. Sabrina is on the hunt for answers and while hunting for answers she finds her mom and starts to rebuild her relationship with her. On the way she finds out that she is special . With the help of her friends and family . She will shine in the darkness and come out the other side happier .
The characters in this book are very well developed . Sabrina is the main character and man she goes on such a journey . She has so many trials as she tries to pull her life together. She tries to do the right thing by her family but the pain and terror is just too much for her . You watch her grow and become more independent as the story evolves . She becomes a strong young woman who will fight for anyone and everyone she loves .
The other cast members are a menagerie of good and bad . Debra is one of those characters that you really love to hate . She is so mean and you really just want to slap her upside the head for the way she treats Sabrina . Trust me I kind of cheered when she got what was coming to her.
Sybil is the supposed best friend but I found her to be a self indulgent spoiled brat . who  wants all the attention for herself . She seems not to want Sabrina to succeed at anything . I kind of wanted to give her a good spanking . She does break Sabrina's heart .
The rest of the characters are such a good diversity from her aunt and uncle to her mother. Also all the people that she meets and helps her along the way
This book was a fast read for me . I sat down and started reading . The book takes you on a journey where you find out who your friends are and what you are willing to do to find the love and family that you have been craving your life . There are just a couple of things that could be just a little bit more . The reconnection with her mother , I think that there should just be a little bit of not getting along . I mean she did leave Sabrina . Also when her father came home there was some discord but I think it should of been just a little bit more . Other then that the book read well and flowed good . The characters will grab you and suck you in . You will cheer and shed a tear for Sabrina . You will love her and hate some of the other characters . So if you want an enjoyable read to add to your reading list this summer check it out .

                         MY REVIEW

This is the first major cross over of two of the biggest action heroes and villains I have seen in the rebirth genre.  This is the one to read, The JUSTICE LEAGUE the best heroes out there and the SUICIDE SQUAD  the best villains out there . When they clash it is EPIC .
The story is based on when the justice league is captured and in need of help . Enter the SUICIDE Squad to do what they need to do . There are some epic fight scenes between them . I cheered for each of them but when it came to WONDER WOMAN  and HARLEY QUINN. I was at a loss of words . I really wanted both of them to come out on top but alas only one could win but not going to tell you. But when push comes to shove . Can they come together and work as a team to help thwart the evil  Maxwell Lord and his evil minions that he has mind control over . Will they survive and will they win against the evil ones .
I have been a Justice league fan for a long time  and I fell in love with the Suicide Squad when they were introduced . So when I  found out they were going to battle in the newest rebirth . I was doing a happy dance . The authors didn't disappoint this girl . Each story was well written and the graphics are awesome . They remind me a bit of old school colours with a punch to bring them up to date .
I couldn't put done this  graphic novel down , I know it is a comic but this girl loves all things comic and so wasn't disappointed . Each and every story gave me goose bumps and had me cheering for each and every character I love . I had this novel read in a couple of hours cause I was so hooked . This is a great addition to anyone who loves comics and loves the JUSTICE LEAGUE  or THE SUICIDE SQUAD . You will want this book to add to your collection .

HAPPY WEDNESDAY EVERYONE

Happy Wednesday all . Today is zombie Wednesday but these zombies have a twist . Let me introduce you all to EMMA'S ROSE the cave by Eric A Shelman

                         BOOK BLURB

IN AN ANCIENT CAVE IN ROMANIA . . .

Wealthy philanthropist Arthur Wells, in need of a family getaway with his wife, Joan, and his daughter, Emma, arranges a trip to Romania. His intention is to explore an ancient cave system he read about, located in Constanta, on the Black Sea coast.

The name of the cave, unearthed in 1986, is Pestera Movile. It has been sealed from the light of day for over five-and-a-half million years, preserved beneath more than 20 meters of clay. Yet, despite the toxic environment and the lack of light and oxygen within, life forms thrive - all of them blind and colorless. Many are carnivorous.

Most are found nowhere else on Earth.

In this harsh, chemosynthetic environment, Arthur stumbles across something he hopes will advance medical science. Unbeknownst to his guide, he takes a sample of the strange flower.

Arthur Wells has no way of knowing what Emma's Rose is about to unleash upon the world.

                           MY REVIEW

Ok I have read almost all of Eric's books and was excited to read his new zombie book . Emma's Rose . I was blown away with the book started out . In a cave in Romania where it has been hidden from the world . With its toxic ecosystem not many people have ventured down there . While on a holiday Arthur and his family decide to head to Constanta on the black sea coast .  After venturing down into the cave he is in awe of the life that is surviving down there . Most of the specimens have never seen the light of day . When stumbles into part of the cave that have never been opened before . He finds a beautiful flower which he decides to take home, hoping that it will bring the cure to cancer or some other deadly disease. But what he inadvertently done is, well not going to tell you, you have to read the book .
In this series , just like all his series , you will find characters that are relatable to you and you will start to really care for them . In this book it is Arthur , this man was so full of himself at the start of the book . He came off as kind of arrogant and he thought he could do anything . But as his world is falling apart around and his family is dying . You see a change in him you see him become a more humbled man that wants to stop what ever is happening in the end of the world . You also see him toughen up as he is humbled .  The other two relatable characters are Ramona and Harvey . April is another character you will like . She gets tougher and stronger as the story goes on . But the main character the rose is one sinister flower. Trust me after reading this book I am going to look at roses differently from now on .
This book had me on the edge of my seat the whole time . The author has built a different type of zombie that really works and also the new delivery system of the virus makes you never want to get flowers again . Just trust me on this one people .
The book is character driven you will cheer for them and you will laugh with them . Most definitely you will cry for them and with them . I read this book in one sitting, well into the night . I just couldn't put it down , it kept calling me back just to read a couple more pages and 3 chapters later I was like wow .  I so can't wait to find out what happens with these characters . So when is book two coming out , can't be soon enough for this girl . So if you want a good start to a hopefully great new series . Check out EMMA'S ROSE the Cave by Eric A Shelman . I promise you , you will not be disappointed and you will be begging Eric for the second book .

This is the first book in a brand series from Jessica Aspen . What would you do if you move to a new place and start a new job . Then finding out the man you want as your mate isn't the one you really want . Its his twin brother that gets Serena's blood a boiling and her wolf to sit up and howl repeatedly. Well that's what happens to Serena as she heads to Colorado for her new job as a dream walker . Her boss really hates her and she has a stalker on top of trying to figure out who she should be with.
The characters in this book are so developed . Serena is a dream walker.  Her wolf comes out in dreams and she doesn't exactly transform into a wolf .  She is a very strong woman who really knows what she wants . But she also has some insecurities about her wolf and will anyone really want her and understand her . Enter Sam and Gabe , wolf shifter twins and enforcers for the pack . Serana shared a passionate kiss with Sam. Sam oozes sexiness and is all alpha man . He is gruff and oh so sexy . The man she though she wanted . WELCOME TO A RAINY WEDNESDAY

Welcome to a wet and rainy Wednesday .  Its a great day to grab a book and snuggle down and read the day away .  Today we are going to review a book I couldn't put down . THE DEVIL'S PRAYER by Luke Gracias

                         BOOK BLURB

A nun commits suicide in front of thousands in Spain. In Australia, Siobhan Russo recognises that nun as her mother, Denise Russo, who disappeared six years ago.

In search of answers, Siobhan travels to the isolated convent where her mother once lived. Here she discovers Denise’s final confession, a book that details a heinous betrayal that left her crippled and mute, and Denise’s subsequent deal with the Devil to take revenge. In the desperate bargain Denise made with the Prince of Darkness, she wagered Siobhan’s soul.

As Siobhan discovers the fate of her soul, she learns that hidden within the pages of her mother’s confession is part of The Devil’s Prayer, an ancient text with the power to unleash apocalyptic horrors.

And now her mother’s enemies know Siobhan has it.

Can Siobhan escape an order of extremist monks determined to get the Prayer back? Can she save the world from its own destruction?

                             MY REVIEW

I started this book before bed one night and well lets just say it was a late night by the time I put the book down. The author took me on such a roller coaster ride that was adrenaline based and had me on the edge of my seat for most of the night . The story line alone had me hooked . A young woman Siobhan is trying to figure out what happened to her mother . After seeing a nun who looked like her mother hang herself . That is the first piece of the puzzle that Siobhan must solve to in the mystery of why her mother disappeared 6 years prior .  The pat that Siobhan travels down is dark and scary, armed with only the confession of her mother and the mysterious prayer hidden within the words on the paper . Siobhan is in grave danger and she must outsmart her mother's enemies and save the world from ultimate destruction .
The characters are very well written and complex. Siobhan is a fighter and doesn't stop until she has all the answers she needs .  She finds more about her history as she reads her mother's confession . The monks are well lets just say evil . They want the confession back and will do any thing it takes to get it back . The characters will have you cheering for them in Siobhan's case and wanting to kill them yourselves as in the monks case .
The author does such a great job mixing the historical part of the story and what is happening in the real life of Siobhan .  The book takes off like a bat out of hell and doesn't stop the roller coaster ride . The author takes us on a journey of epic proportions . The twists and turns are every where. You think you have it figured out and bam the author takes you in a totally different  direction .  The author did a great deal of research to keep this book as accurate as it is. The mixture of the thirteenth history and the real up to date time. The way the author describes everything has you actually seeing the monasteries in your mind as you read The book is part the historian . part the Da Vinci Code and The Omen all rolled into one great read . So if you like a great book that will keep you reading all night long and take you away to a place that will have you thinking all night long . Check out THE DEVIL'S PRAYER  you will not be disappointed .

HAPPY RELEASE DAY

Today is a good day , looks like we will finally hopefully be getting some rain . Also it is release day for Cathy  Jackson and her new book  YOURS FOREVER (yours to ...... book 3)

                         BOOK BLURB

Maximillian Roselle needs Ruthie Eden like he needs air to breathe. Her compassion, passion, and faith have awakened his desire to love and be loved; and the attention she has received from his colleague, Ken Davis, has galvanized his determination to make her his own.

Ken knows a good thing when he sees it, so when his friend Max struggled with his relationship with Ruthie, he stepped in to give Max a push. Now he lends his friendship to bolster and encourage Max's faith in God and Ruthie.

Ruthie Eden enjoyed being single. She busied herself with her interests and her writing and hadn't seriously thought about sharing her life with anyone—until she met the Roselle family. With her heart open to be loved, the attention of other men has her head spinning.

Enter Jace Nelson, brought in to collaborate on Max and Ken's new video project. Charming and roguish, he has less-than-honorable intentions toward Ruthie. He takes this enterprise as an oppurtunity to turn Ruthie's head and change her heart, and doesn't care what claim anyone else might have.

                          MY REVIEW

This is the third book in the YOURS TO series and what a great way to wrap up the series . Ruthie and Max are happily falling in love and slowly becoming a family with his children.  But with all the sunshine and happiness there is also a little rain. When a smooth talking man enters their lives . Will Max loose Ruthie when Jace tries to sway her heart .
This was an enjoyable book it brings books 1 and 2 together nicely . We see the couple growing and falling in love with each other. It seems to be a whirlwind kind of courtship but when hearts are involved they usually work fast and know what they want. Max and Ruthie have grown a lot since book 2 . Max is becoming the man that Ruthie wants and needs but there is still that nagging fear that he has and sometimes he still pushes her away. He is becoming a good man and a strong man knowing what he wants . Ruthie is still naïve but she seems to be coming a stronger character and more of the woman that everyone wants .  But like most women when someone says something that makes her doubt herself , she starts to doubt the love of Max and her love for him .  Ken is back in book three and he is really becoming Max's best friend and a help to Ruthie . He is like the older brother that sees what is going on and approves . Then going about and giving them a little shove in the right direction. He is also very protective of both Max an Ruthie and wants to see them together .  We also get to dive deeper into Ruthie's past and why her mom treated her the way she did . Trust me when you get to that part have a box of tissue ready . You will cry and want to hug both of them tightly .  Now the man that everyone will dislike Jace, he is the cocky you tuber coming in to help on a project . You automatically get the dislike vibe from him and you don't know why at first . Then when he does what he does to make Ruthie doubt herself and her love for Max . You really just want to punch him in the face . You will cheer when you see it actually happen .  The characters have matured and become more complex in this story. You will love them and how much they have grown.
This book was a very enjoyable read . I really liked this series , the author makes us really feel something for her characters and fall in love with them . There are just a couple of things I wish we could of seen . More out in the world interaction as a family , they seem to at the house and don't get out much. Also I wish they would of went with Ruthie to her church . It would be great to see them in that situation . Meeting Ruthie's friends and church family.  Other then those two things I really enjoyed this book and this series . The characters are great and the story will pull at your heart strings and make you smile and cry and then smile again . So if you want a good series that is an enjoyable easy clean read that will make you happy . Check out the YOURS FOREVER and the whole YOURS TO series . You will not be disappointed .

GOOD THURSDAY ALL

Good day all , I hope you are all having a great   Thursday . Today we are going to review GRAVE SURPRISE by Charlaine Harris . But this is the graphic novel not the actual book .

                            BOOK BLURB

The official graphic novel adaptation of Grave Surprise by Charlaine Harris, the author of The Southern Vampire Mysteries! Harper Connelly, a psychic capable of finding dead people and reading their last thoughts, discovers a grave in Memphis with two bodies: a man centuries dead, and a girl recently deceased. How the two bodies ended up together would be perplexing enough... but the sudden appearance of a third body the next morning makes this a mystery that perhaps even Connelly can't solve!

                             MY REVIEW
I  must say that Charlaine Harris is one of my go to authors when I want a witty  read , From her Sookie Stackhouse books to Harper Connelly books . I have read everyone of them. So colour me excited when I say that they made the first book from the Harper Connelly series into a graphic novel . Yes I decided to see how it was and man I wasn't disappointed . The graphic novel brought Harper to life for me . It was great to see her kick some but and put her  brother in his place over and over .
So who is Harper you ask, well she is a physic that hears dead people and with her step brother they go around helping people . She is a strong kick butt character that only wants to help people but things are always there tripping her up . Toliver is her step brother and he helps Harper any way he can . They are such a formidable pair . I really like the character of Harper . she is tough and fragile at the same time . Charlaine writes such strong female characters that  you can't help but fall in love with .
This isn't a new book by the author but it is a republished book in the form of a graphic novel . The characters take on a new dimension and seem to come alive more as you read . It really brings a new renewed excitement for the Harper Connelly series . The art is dark and it just adds to the whole eeriness of the story line and ties in seamlessly with the story . I must say that the graphics add a whole new dimension to the story and refreshes it nicely .  I am so truly happy that her books are becoming graphic novels . Trust me I will be getting these books in hard copy form so I can add them to my ever growing graphic novel selection . So if you at into graphic novels and love Charlaine Harris check out her graphic novels . You will not be disappointed
I was given a copy of the book through the publisher and netgalley for my honest opinion.

GOOD MONDAY ALL

Good Monday all today is Zombie Monday . We are going to review a new graphic novel . ZOMBIES ( A Brief History of Decay ) by Oliver Peru.

                         BOOK BLURB

A vivid and richly illustrated graphic novel, Zombies offers an action-packed tour through an apocalyptic vision of America.

Mankind is no longer at the top of the food chain. Zombies have taken their place, and nothing can stop them. Is this the end of humanity? Perhaps, but for some it is only the beginning.

Six billion living corpses are all that remains of civilization. Among the few survivors is Sam Coleman, a man who owes his salvation to Smith & Wesson and a little luck. Fleeing Seattle at the onset of the zombie outbreak, he was forced to leave his daughter behind. Yet now that silence has fallen over the city, he believes that she may still be alive. And his conscience serves up a constant reminder that to be human in this grim world is to have hope—and to keep fighting.

                       MY REVIEW

I was given this graphic novel for an honest review.  This graphic novel is a fresh new perspective on the zombie genre. Let me introduce you to Sam Coleman who is trying to get out of Seattle at the start of the apocalypse. Armed with only his smith & Wesson he has fought his way out but he has left someone important behind his daughter . Now that it has fallen silent he wonders is she still alive . He wrestles with his conscience and realizes what it is like to fight and still be human in his new grim reality
Now I am a zombie lover and will read anything to do with them . So when I was offered this book I was so happy . I actually sat down and devoured this book in one sitting . The author takes us on a roller coaster ride . You cheer for our main character Sam and you pray that he will survive and find his daughter . He is a man that you can't help but want to cheer for . You can see how the guilt of him leaving he daughter behind . But you know that when it comes to the apocalypse its everyone for themselves .  Then you see him come to a realization that the grim new world he is the minority and he is going to find his daughter . Which I will tell you to read the book to find out . Yes I am just that mean .
The author uses the Pacific North West as the setting of his zombie story . Which to me is a nice change cause it seems all the zombie stories seem to be based in New York or Los Angeles.    The author kept a steady pace through out the story and the action was good . There is gore when the zombies are blown up and shot but that is true in all zombie stories . But the characters are so much more human compared to some books . They are people trying to survive anyway they can . This was a nice good fast read for me the story was set a steady pace and the graphics are well drawn  and do the book justice .  I would recommend this book to anyone who loves zombies . If you love TWD  you will enjoy this book . So check it out . I have given it 5 stars .
