GOOD TUESDAY ALL

Welcome to Tuesday , today we are going to review a new author for me  Karen Tomlinson and her book A BOND OF VENOM AND MAGIC (The Goddess and Guardians book one )

                             BOOK BLURB

A breathtaking fantasy romance, the first in a sensational new series by USA Today Bestselling author Karen Tomlinson.

Magic awakens. Darkness stirs. The Wraith Lord is hunting.

The war raging in the South seems a remote danger for seventeen-year-old Diamond Gillon until her home is brutally attacked. Catapulted into a terrifying new world where legendary beasts arise, magic is condemned, and half-blood fae like her have no rights, Diamond is inexplicably drawn to her saviour. But Commander Hugo Casimir is a ruthless elite guard owned by a cruel, immortal fae queen who will murder her own people for magic.

As she sinks deeper into Hugo’s world, Diamond’s circumstances become ever more dangerous, for the Queen covets more than just her magic. To discover who she truly is, Diamond must escape the Queen’s clutches—before her fate, and that of The Eight Kingdoms, is sealed in shadow and chaos.

Will Hugo prove to be her friend, her protector, or an enemy not worthy of her trust?

A Bond of Venom and Magic is an epic fantasy tale, ideal for mature Young Adult readers. Fans of Sarah J Maas and Leigh Bardugo will love to discover this spectacular new world steeped in dragons, romance, and armoured winged warriors.

                          MY REVIEW
Welcome to the world of the Fae . With a war brewing in the south Diamond has been left unaffected until the day she is attacked at her little school house . Her life is turned upside down. She heads to a world where the legendary beasts arise and magic is not what you want to have . Being a half fae she is basically at the bottom of the barrel according to the world of the Fae . When Hugo comes into her life , she is drawn to the cruel guard . Will they survive the evil queen who wants Diamond for her power and will they realize that they are more to each other .
This is such a good fantasy novel , the characters are well written. Diamond is an outcast but she is also a strong girl that when push comes to shove she will fight for those she loves and needs . She grows up a lot through out the book . I can't wait to see where the author takes her . Hugo well this poor man is well basically between a rock and hard space . He wants to protect Diamond from the evil queen but he is torn because he works for the queen and she wants Diamond . You really see Hugo go through so many emotions when he is with Diamond from love to ultimate protection . They are a couple that will grow hopefully together .
This is an epic ya fantasy , you are transported to a time and place of magic . You have the good versus evil , heartbroken heroine and an epic mystery that needs to be solved . I couldn't put it down . The characters are lovable and the story is good . I will say that there are a few things that did bother me like the repetition of the some of the emotions both the main characters had . It just seemed flat and yes I admit I skimmed those parts . Over all I really enjoyed this book and fell for the characters . This would be a great book for teens who want an epic read for this summer . Even us adults that love getting lost in a great fantasy .

well its Monday

Well I hope everyone survived the weekend .  I survived Canada day with minimal damage lol. Today we are going to review CREATURE OF THE NIGHT  by Anne Stinnett

                           BOOK BLURB

What promises to be the most sensational season yet of the controversial reality show Creature of the Night is about to premiere. The competition will be fierce and the challenges bloody because the twelve contestants are competing for more than a check and a bit of fame; they are competing for immortality.

To earn it, they will vie for survival before an audience that lurks like a pack of fiends, ready to repay any sign of weakness with jeering applause. At the same time, they must impress a panel of vampire judges, the most approachable of whom is a nightmare out of history. But the real predators are the producers.

While the audience looks forward to brutal good times, the contestants gear up to be their most outrageous, watchable selves. They have come to live, and to die. Their ranks include an intellectual desperate for more time, a vampire rights advocate on the verge of disillusionment, and a ballerina who thinks she has nothing to lose.

Under scrutiny from the bickering vampires and bloodthirsty audience, the competitors must navigate potentially lethal challenges and, if they ever hope to become undead, stay alive.

                       MY REVIEW

This book is a cross between THE HUNGER GAMES and Big Brother. Welcome to Creature of the night where contestants literally play until the last one is standing . All to become a vampire. Twelve contestants will enter and only one will survive the onslaught of the audience that is out for blood and a panel of battling vampires  Who will survive and will they love to be undead .
The characters in this book are well developed. We have normal crazy to crazy crazy. They are diverse and all have their own reasons for wanting to become a vampire. I think the author could of made the characters just a little bit more complex . The best part of the whole show was the audience and their blood thirsty attitudes . They make the book fun .
This book was a fun read , it read like a graphic novel . I would love to see this as a graphic novel . The characters are well written and the author has you giggling through out the book . Yes it is graphic and yes it is bloody but aren't most reality tv shows . Yes I know there are some spots that do come off a little flat . Over all I really enjoyed this book and would love to see it as a graphic novel . So check it out if you like hunger games or big brother . this is the book for you

Good Sunday all

Good Sunday morning all and HAPPY CANADA DAY  to all my friends and readers in Canada . Lets party . Today I am going to review A NIGHTTIME OF FOREVER by Matthew S Cox

                            BOOK BLURB

Sarah Wright woke up a few times after parties in strange places―but the morgue’s a first.

At eighteen, she’s eager for a taste of independence, moving out of state to attend college. A change of scenery is extra-needed due to a bad breakup with her boyfriend, Scott. However, soon after escaping the body cooler, she makes two startling realizations: vampires are real, and she is one.

There’s nothing quite like an untimely death to ruin plans. California’s sunny beaches aren’t the best place for vampires to chill, and worse, not only does she wind up stuck in Seattle, she’s still living (figuratively) with her parents.

They take the news surprisingly well―after all, it’s better than burying her―even helping move her bedroom to the basement. A disinterested sire, distraught friends, nosy Men in Black, and awestruck younger siblings complicate her adjustment to the new normal of being an immortal still subject to her parents’ rules.

Undeath has its perks, but it also brings enemies. Without a copy of ‘Fangs for Dummies,’ Sarah’s left scrambling for answers when one such new enemy attacks her siblings and friends. If she can’t figure out how to vampire, her attempt to spare her family the grief of losing her may wind up killing them.

                      MY REVIEW

This book had me giggling from the beginning . Lets just say there should be a manual on when you become a vampire . This is what happened to Sarah, just eighteen and turned into a vampire . She is lost at what to do , thinking this is just a dream . But alas it isn't a dream and when she meets her maker well lets just say he is kind of disinterested and gives her the basics of how to survive . Making things worse now she has to tell her parents who in my opinion take it rather well and help her adjust . When things start to go wrong and friends and family go missing and a team of MIBS  show up at her door . Its up to Sarah to find her family and try and figure out what the MIBS want with her . Will her life ever be the same again,
This book is not your normal vampire book. Yes there is a good looking vampire but this is a bout a girl who is fumbling her way through life .  Sarah is you typical high school senior all she wants to do is get out and head to university, she is your typical teen ager. she fun and well a little naïve some of the time . She is still that way as a vampire also. She is so much fun to read . I loved her . Her family is devoted to her , even though she is dead . Dalton well he is to me not the best vampire , its like he just doesn't really want to be there most of the time . He basically just gives Sarah the basics of what is going on . But he does come through when she needs him . All the characters are well written and complex . They are all sweet and funny .
This book is a great read , you will laugh your way through the whole book . I really liked the premise of the book . The author did make the vampires perfect , they still had their humanity and with that their faults . I read this book in an evening , I just couldn't put it down , I laughed so hard at some of the things poor Sarah went through . Loved the fangs for dummies reference and what she put her poor family through when they thought she was dead . The story moves pretty fast and there is enough action to keep you interested . The characters actions are realistic and believable in their actions . You don't have to suspend your imagination to read this story. There isn't one sparkly vampire in it . So if you want a vampire book you can't put down this summer . This is the book for your pool side read this summer . Check it out

GOOD SATURDAY ALL

Good Saturday all . WOOHOOOOO its long weekend up here in Canada . I will be reading all weekend . Today I am going to review DREAMSHORES by Mike Robinson

                            BOOK BLURB

Restless and fire-hearted, ten-year-old Sierra Nevada Smith was always chasing monsters, whether through the pages of her favorite books or in the woods behind the secluded California town where she grew up. Fantastic new worlds opened for her, however, when, after a near-tragedy, she discovered the films of legendary stop-motion animator Russell Boylan.

Ten years later, she finds herself working aboard a yacht, adrift at sea and in life, her peers nicknaming her the ‘Monster Girl’: a sad consolation for her own stunted career as a stop-motion animator in this era of computer-generated effects. When their boat is mysteriously pulled through a corridor of fog, the crew finds themselves deposited on the shores of an extraordinary island, a place where the stomping, roaring, clambering dinosaurs and creatures of Russell Boylan’s classic films have been relegated to live beyond script or screen, and to evolve.

And it is here that Sierra discovers not only an incredible power, but what may be her purpose.

                     MY REVIEW

This is a strange story in a very good way . The story starts with a ten year old Sierra a girl who chases monsters either in books or in the movies of her all time favourite film maker Russel Boylen . A stop motion animator . Jump ahead ten years and Sierra is all grown up and working on a yacht and nicknamed the monster girl by all her friends and work mates . When they end up on an island where all Russel's monsters are alive and evolving . She finds out her purpose in life and what she is meant to do .
This is a book that has a vibe of all old time horror movies . The characters are well written . Sierra is a young woman that is obsessed with all things monster related .  She knows everything about the monsters of Russel Boylen.  She is a spitfire and she thinks she can do what ever she wants .  She is loyal to her friends especially KB. Now KB is a sweet guy that would do anything for Sierra . He tries to protect her and they have such a special bond . They are great together as friends . Now the real star of the show is the island . It is ever changing and evolving keeping everyone including Sierra on their toes .
This book is like a combination of land of the lost and every monster movie you have seen . The author takes us on an adventure full of monsters and a brave girl that will stop them . It read like a graphic novel you can just imagine what is going on and painting a picture as you go along . There was just a few spots that I was tripping over when it got just a little too technical in the wording . Another spot was the ending I would love to have seen how they survived after the island . It just kind of stopped with them on the island . Over all I really enjoyed this story and the premise was very intriguing . I could really see this one as a graphic novel . So if you want to take a chance on monsters and islands in the middle of nowhere check it out you will not be disappointed .
