HAPPY TUESDAY ALL
Happy Tuesday all , I hope all my Canadian readers had a great long Thanks giving weekend and you are all recouping nicely . Today we are going to go a different route and review a cool graphic novel I found read and actually forgot about . I reread it today and fell in love with it again . THE DAMNED Volume 1 by Cullen Bunn
BOOK BLURB
During prohibition, gangsters grew rich on our vices, and rivalries between criminal organizations resulted in open war. But unknown to the masses, a more sinister power controlled the crime cartels, using greed, gluttony, lust and other sins to fuel a more lucrative trade: mortal souls. Enter Eddie, a mortal who lost his soul long ago. Caught in the middle of competing demonic families, any other human would've gotten the ax long ago. But Eddie's got a special talent that keeps him on his feet. One man's curse is another man's gift. THE DAMNED is hard-boiled noir with demons, and the team behind THE SIXTH GUN is bringing it back with new colors, a new format, and a new ongoing tale of tommy guns and hellfire.
MY REVIEW
This book is set in Prohibition times in America . Where crime organizations are controlling most of the alcohol coming in . There are rivalries and wars going on between all of them . But what people don't know there is a more sinister power is controlling the crime organizations . With greed and gluttony running rampant . Poor Eddie enters the world the only man who has lost his soul to the devil a long time ago. The only thing that is keeping him alive is his special talent .This is a dark noir book that will keep you reading .
This book is dark and so well written . You really start to care for Eddie . He is one poor tortured soul that is caught between two rival crime families . He is basically a fixer and his gift is that he can't die or can't stay dead for long . You really start to feel for him . You want to take him in your arms and hug him . You will either like him or hate him its your choice . There are also femme fatale which really isn't as fatale as you think . There are also the hangers on who really just want to be there . You will like some of them . The right hand men of the demon bosses . There are characters that you will really like and those you will hate and those that will bend your mind
The story is dark and the illustrations match the story line so well . I have seen the novel in black and white and I love it in the colour. The colour adds to the story . The story is well written and you just can't put it down . There are demons and people and they take you on a eerie rollercoaster ride . Where you will feel the pain of the humans involved and you have a love hate relationship with the demons and Eddie . So if you love eerie graphic novels with a great story line and great illustrations this is the book for you . Check it out .

MY REVIEW
This book brings two of my favourite characters together to solve the murders of children in Paramis . The Hunter following a demon hiding in human form . He heads to Paramis to find out who is behind the slayings . When he runs into Illana and the Night Guild . Both of them trying to find out who is killing the young children and why . Between the demons and the Duke that is really eager to blame this all on the Night Guild . Will they find out and bring the killer to justice . Before they kill each other .
This book was the book that I was waiting for . The Hunter and Illana in the same book , yes. I so love the Hunter , he is the personification of a true hunting machine is . He is logical and methodical and relentless in the pursuit of those that are evil . But we also get to see a more human side of him and a side that is actually really fun . You will really like him in this book and if you liked him before you will really like him in this book .
Now lets talk Illana , she is amazing in this book . She is tough and won't back down from anyone . Even the Duke who wants her dead and the Night guild stopped . She doesn't take any bull from anyone , She is such a strong female character that you will fall in love with , We also see her try and balance being a mom and running the night guild . Which is harder then you think. We also get to see Koydn all grown up and wanting to help .
This book is EPIC yes I said it . I have loved all the books in both series so when I heard the author was going to combine both worlds . Yes I admit it I did a happy dance . When I got the book I sat down and read it in a day and a bit . I couldn't put the book down . I really liked how the author combined both worlds into one story. And kept each character getting equal time one character didn't over shadow the other character at all . He had them both working different angles on the same murder . They are both powerful characters that work really well together and the author balanced them very well . This is a fast read if you love epic fantasies . The author really takes us on a thrill ride , you need to sit down and buckle up and enjoy the ride . If you want to know more about the characters I would say read each of their series . Trust me though you will not be disappointed in the least . You will fall in love with the characters .

MY REVIEW
I was introduced to this book by a friend I couldn't wait to sit down and start reading it . I always loved a good pirate book but I didn't realize what I was getting into with this book The book is more then just a pirate book. Meet Dianna who is heading home for here father's funeral . She hasn't been back to Newfoundland for it seems like ever . When she gets there she is met by her aunt and taken back to the house . Where she is hit wit emotions that she didn't want . One night when she accidently breaks a ship in a bottle and is transported back to 1707 Newfoundland . Well lets say more like the middle of the ocean off Newfoundland . Where she is scooped up and taken aboard the Devil's Heart . Where she meets the infamous Devil eyed pirate Barrett and his crew . Where a little work she becomes a crew member and indispensable to them and the dreaded pirate who is more then he is letting on . Will she be able to come back home or will she want to come home after she realizes there is more to this crew then they are letting on.
I must say that I adore these characters . I absolutely fell in love with each and everyone of them . Dianna is a woman who feels like she just doesn't belong in the modern world . She seems lost and not too happy . She is actually stronger then she gives herself credit for . I really liked her attitude and her sass when it comes to the men on the boat . She is brave but doesn't put out a bravado when it comes to something that is going to hurt her or the ones she loves . She does get scared and has a healthy dose of fear for her situation in that Era . Which makes her more lovable and more believable
Henry Barret the Devil Eyed pirate is such a tortured man , he is so complex and you really just want to hug him and make sure he is going to be ok . He has been through so much and when you see him at first . He is surly and really dangerous . But as you read along with Dianna in his journal you see a much different man emerge . He shows his kind and sweet side to Dianna and the rest of the crew . But I must say my two favourite characters in the book are Gus and Finn, they bring hilarity to the book . Finn is a big ole Scotsman who will do just about anything for a friend . He takes Dianna under his wing when she is first on the ship and keeps her safe . He is also a little brass and sometimes vulgar . Trust me you will love the salty dog . He makes the story most of the time . Gus is more on the quiet side and will do anything for the people he loves .
This book is a combination of time travel and pirate lore . The author takes us on a grand adventure . I honestly couldn't put the book down I wanted to find out what happened between Henry and Dianna . Will she stay or try and get home or will the love they have for each other keep them together . The author has a great way of taking Canadian places and weaving a tale that will keep you enthralled all the way through . I will tell you though there is a cliff hanger so you will want to dive into the second book as soon as you are done book one . So if you love OUTLANDER and The Pirates of the Caribbean you will love this book . It has time travel , mystery and laugh out loud moments that will keep you turning pages all night long . So add this series to your fall reading list . Trust me you will not be disappointed in the least
