 Today we are doing a author interview with a up and coming indie author from Australia . KC Riley- Gyer.

So lets all give her a warm welcome

Tell us a little about yourself.

Hi Patricia, thanks for having me. =groans with a smile= I've always hated this question because I never know what to say. Well, I'm KC Riley-Gyer and am 47 years old. I'm short, cuddly, disabled and shy. Since I was 12 I've been attempting to write but my attempts didn't improve until after I turned 20. I have worked in a number of jobs (not writing related) and love using my word processor and graphics programs. With no children or pets, I tend to lead a fairly quiet life. When not writing, I pass the time with family and friends, puzzle based games, movies and tv, and internet and graphics.

What made you want to become a writer?

I've always loved (and still do) reading and movies, especially fiction in most of its forms. That led me to writing. I was always attempting it but my grasp on the use of English (for writing) made my attempts not that great. I kept trying though and role playing games like Dungeons&Dragons helped. Eventually I succeeded =smiles=

Tell us a bit about your books.

My books are adventure romances set in Brisbane Queensland Australia with characters of vampires, were-creatures, hunters and every day people whose path intersect with each other. The books are set in modern day to near future.

What makes your books different then most books in the genre?

Hmmm... What makes them different? Nothing really obvious. My vampires aren't all super beings (outside of  some of the standard vampy stuff that is), my were-creatures - while having a longer life than the humans - don't live forever and my humans aren't all rich. Each character has their basis in starting out as average people, that it's their mental make-up and life events that decides how they behave.

Do you have any rituals, that you do when you are writing?Nope, I have no rituals at all. If I'm in the mood to write (when I'm not making time to write), I can write anywhere with pen & paper, computer or mobile device. I don't have to have absolute quiet or music on or any other such things to get me in the zone. I guess I'm lucky

Preferably not but a light amount is acceptable =chuckles=

Favorite snack when reading?

Whatever's available but chocolate or chips (crisps) are a good start. They're my favourites =big smile=

Your all time favorite book?

Ohhhhh... I have so many. That's the problem of being a lover of books. But if I have to really pick one... The oldest I have in my collection that I still read every now and then is The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett.

 

You have two books out now is there a third book in the works . If there is when will it be out?

Oh yes, there is a third, fourth, fifth, sixth, etc. I'm sure you get the idea =laughs=. Book 3 will be available real soon... A month, more or less. I'm finalising the details now.

Last but not least what would you tell anyone who wants to start writing?

To anyone who wants to start writing... Just write. Don't worry about needing the right atmosphere and/or location, or whether you're a plotter or a pantster as they will make themselves clear to you as time progresses. Just write what coms to mind, don't edit until your first draft is complete. And trust me, it will be a first draft of many. But that is a good thing. Honest. Just don't rush it but definitely stick with it. Don't give up just because it might be difficult or you think it sucks. Walk away from it for a little while if need be, but come back to it and just write.

MY REVIEW

What can I say I love Rose Pressey, her books are well written they give you a great giggle along with a cool and different story each time. Let me introduce to Hadley she is a stylist to the undead and a vampire. She has a stylish clothing store that caters to the vampires that have just woken up. She brings them up to date with today's fashions and helps basically become part of the human world. Life in Savannah is just well its Savannah. Life is just going on until the day she meets Max Dupree and is swept off her feet , and into a mystery . He is a newly awakened vampire with a shroud of mystery around him. As they try and figure out what is going on . They become closer. But time is running out and they need to figure out what is threatening all the vampires in Savannah.
   I simply adore Rose Pressey, her books are always a delightful read. Her style differs from each book she writes. The characters are always well written and will keep you in stitches. They always end up in some fun filled mystery, that will keep you giggling all night long. Just the premise of a stylist to the just awoken vampires is cute all on its own.  Watching her try and find the perfect outfits for them is hilarious.
  I really loved Hadley and Max they are meant to be together. I admit it I had a little book crush on Max all tall dark and brooding. It also made me want to help him out cause he doesn't remember a thing. Hadley has had it hard when it comes to men. She just can't seem to find one . That is why they are so good together. They are very complex and just want to be happy
.  The using Savannah as a back drop is different , not a lot of writers won't use Savannah for some reason, too hot maybe. The author also takes to some of the sites famous in Savannah. 
 There are so many twists and turns in this book. I suggest that you find and comfy place to settle down and some snacks and a good glass of wine when you start reading . Oh yeah also don't let anyone interrupt you while you read. Cause you will be upset if some one does. Cause you will not put this book down.
   This is the first in hopefully a great series . If you like quirky characters and a great story to go along with those characters this is the book for you. It will be a great beach read for those hot sultry days at the pool or those lazy days in the hammock . So check it out if you dare . I was happy I got it .

Good Thursday everyone, hope your day is going good. I hope my day has calmed down just a little. Its been a good week and a bad week for me. But I will say I did get a lot of reading done. Insomnia does that to a girl. Especially when waiting on news. Today's book is THE EVIL IS IN THE ICE by Danny Odato

MY REVIEW
  Lets say this book has a lot going on. It is a sci fi thriller, with mystery and intrigue oh yeah did I mention the zombies. Yes I said zombies . I settled down to read this book and wasn't expecting the thrill ride it took me on. It starts out with four well preserved bodies, that have been buried for it seems like centuries . Are transported to a New York research facility where Dr. Fredrick Orville supervises the investigation. Once started that is where things start to go terribly wrong . In the under ground bunker the demonic creatures come alive and this is where The doctor has to make a serum to get the creatures under control before they could get out and basically destroy the world.
  There is one person who might be able to get to the creatures and it is Dr. Orville's daughter . As a descendant of Axosyz. She is the only one that can help the team figure out the right course to be on.
   This is the first book I have read from this author and boy I was not disappointed in the least. The story was fast paced and once you start reading you just can't put the book down. You are questioning your own beliefs and immortality as you read. The author keeps us on the edge of our seats. Why at this moment in time why were the zombies unleashed from their tombs after centuries of being buried. Are they the ultimate terrorists wreaking havoc over the world population. I felt like that when reading . The author wrote with such an intensity it made me really wonder what would happen. Would we actually survive the onslaught. Will there be people to actually find the serum to help us out in time.
  This isn't your typical zombie eating, mystery, sci fi thriller. Like the Night of the Living Dead or even the Walking Dead. This the one book that will make you think and question everything about what could happen.
  This is a book that everyone should read if you love sci fi thriller and zombies this is the book for you . So check it out. You know you want to enter the world of zombies and the research. Read if you dare .

Hi all, I have a special treat for you today. I would like to introduce you all to a cool new author. His book The Coolest Way to Kill Yourself, is a gritty story set against the New York City rave scene in the 90’s. It is listed as fiction, it is more autobiographical than fiction.

 Your book is such a good read, it is really raw and gritty. What was your incentive i

n writing an autobiography?

 I wrote the book for Lynn, the love of my life.  Lynn died two years ago, and I felt such a monumental loss. I felt really horrible that she did not know how deeply I loved her.  She knew I loved her, but I wanted to write a book in tribute to her. I wanted it to be a grand gesture. This book is a tribute to her and the love we shared.

How long did it take you to write the book?

 Instead of falling into depression, addiction or negative behavior, I felt a need to do something creative and positive. I started contacting everyone who was a part of our lives at the time. When Hurricane Sandy hit, I knew then that I seriously had to sit down and write this book. I started looking through pictures of Lynn and reading her poems and letters.

Then I started writing and it took me 6 to 8 months to write the rough draft of the book.   With the help of my editor, we worked for 4 to 5 months after that to get the story just right.  I am very grateful for my editor and her belief in me.

To me, the project felt like it had an epic scale. It took an incredible amount of work, but I never felt as if it was work.  I felt that the book had to be written… as a tribute to Lynn

Can you tell the readers what makes your book different from all the other books in the genre?

It is a raw, honest true story of life, love, second chances, loss, and redemption. The Coolest Way is not a typical romance book, but it is a true love story. The book is filled with kinky sex, hard drugs, and an endless amount of music references. All three play an important role.

I did not add sex to sell books. Lynn and I explored kink, but we did it in a very different way than your typical erotic novel. Kink empowered us. Lynn and I explored drug use. Even though we had some beautiful times, addiction almost destroyed our lives.

Music plays a major role in the book. I am not just name checking songs and bands to do that. The songs and the bands are an essential part of our relationship and the various emotional themes in the book.

 

The book’s structure is very different than a typical book too.

The book is also about me writing the book. During Hurricane Sandy, New Jersey was devastated. Entire towns were without power. I wrote the book while my laptop was plugged into a generator. Because I was writing this as a grand gesture and tribute for Lynn, I wanted to include what it was like to actually write the book. One way I did this was to address the reader directly.  I see my readers as friends.  Friends care for each other, and I wanted the reader to care. Many people have given me feedback that these passages brought them into the story more.

In terms of story organization, the book is broken up into three acts. Each act consists of what I call “drops” and each drop is connected. The book is meant to be read in order, but it bounces around a little bit, somewhat like what Quinton Tarantino does in his films. Having it structured in three acts, with each act consisting of “drops” or anecdotes, makes the somewhat large book a very quick read.

Lynn and I were kind of eccentric people. Our love was unique and unconventional.  It was important that the book also be unique and unconventional.  I know that Lynn would have accepted nothing less than that from me.

Do you have any rituals that you use when writing?

Music, I have a playlist in the back of the book. Those songs were the songs from my life with Lynn. When I was writing, I also listened to the songs to help bring up the emotions. Each song holds a special place in my heart. Music is an essential part of my writing.

Do you have any other books coming out soon?

Yes, I do. Actually, my next book is set in the late 80’s early 90’s. It is about me (Nicholas) right before I meet Lynn. It's a prequel to The Coolest Way and is a novella about the 1989/1990 punk rock / hardcore scene in New Jersey. It is about my very first love and a great summer romance. It will be out later this year or early next year.

Last but not least.  What would you say to anyone who wants to write?

I would tell anyone to just write, don’t stop. Just write what you want and don’t give a f*ck what anyone says. Just be yourself
