WELCOME TO WEDNESDAY

Good morning all , its Wednesday of the first full week of being back to normal in 2020 . Today I have a great book for you and your middle school kids to read . THE ADVENTURES OF UBERGIRL. MY DAD IS A MAD SCIENTIST  by Matthew S Cox

                            BOOK BLURB

Saving the world isn’t easy. It’s even harder when you’re only nine.

Kelly Donovan used to be a nobody. Well, a smart nobody. Skipping ahead a year in school made her the smallest kid in fifth grade and a target for bullies in search of an easy mark. She tried to follow her father’s advice and ignore them, but it didn’t do any good. Escaping into her favorite comic books at least helped her through the day. Who needs friends anyway?

Sometimes, dreams find a way to come true, even if nobody asked them to.

Aliens bombard the Earth with gigantic glowing red crystals to restore its failing magnetic field. Soon after the seemingly benevolent invasion, Kelly discovers her wildest, happiest fantasy come to life: she has superpowers, along with roughly two percent of the population. Her strong good nature leads her to adopt the heroic persona of Übergirl. However, she has one major problem…

Her dad’s turning into a mad scientist.

It’s difficult to be a hero, especially when your father’s a bad guy.

                             MY REVIEW
What's a girl going to do, Kelly is a smart girl a very smart girl . So smart in fact that she was moved up a grade and that's where things start to get bad for her. Being the smallest in the class she is getting picked on by what I will call the mean girls . They have done everything to make her life miserable . Until the day comes when Kelly is at her lowest being hung up in a back pack . When aliens come to Earth with glowing red crystals . Kelly discovers that she has super powers. Which prompts her to become a super hero . She finds out how difficult it can be especially when her dad is becoming a bad guy.

What can I say about these characters . They are well written and you will fall in love with them . Kelly is such a sweet girl who has done nothing wrong except be smart. You will really feel for her . She is bullied every day cause she is younger and not the same as everyone else .  I love how she grows as the story goes on and with the help of her best friend she really matures . Being a super hero is pretty cool too . You will cheer for her through out the book . Her parents are well there are things that come out that will make you want to slap them lol . They are quirky but they are also sinister in their own way . Paige is her best friend and actually Kelly's champion , they are the same but not the same . I love them together .

This is a middle school age book but i seriously think that any parent would love to read it along with them . The author really tackles a few things that happen in school . Bullying being the hot topic at the beginning of this story . He doesn't dumb it down , he treats it very well . The author really what can happen when it happens . This isn't a heavy bullying story . Its kind of like the main characters back story and it kind of lays ground work for when she becomes a super hero .  This book is great for those who are a little bit older in middle grades . The story is complex and your kids won't want to put it down . There are some areas that will make you want to wrap Kelly up and keep her safe . Then there are the times you are laughing and screaming go Kelly go, especially the scene with the mean girls after she got her super powers . I can't wait to jump into book 2 and see where Uber Girl goes and how will she get her parents back from the dark side . So add this book to your kids reading list for 2020 . You read along with them, you will love it .

HAPPY RELEASE DAY ROBYN PETERMAN

Good morning all , the first new release of the 2020 goes to the always hilarious Robyn Peterman and book six in the Sea Shenanigans series JINGLE ME BALLS .

                            BOOK BLURB

What in the salty seas could be more important than presents at Christmas time?
Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Tis’ Christmas time on Mystical Isle and just like the fat bastard in red, I’ve made a list and now I shall check it… twice. Yeah, twice. I might wear a diaper, but I’m not an arse.

Battle the human women in sweatpants and snow boots for electronics on Black Friday. Check.

Cover each palm tree in lights even though the Mermaids insist they look phallic. Check. By the way, what does phallic mean? Never mind. Check.

Moving on.

Weave a Christmas tale during family story time on the beach, have a family portrait made in the special sweaters I pilfered, and write a letter to Santa. I mean, fat bastard… Check.

Planning activities that may end in bloodshed. Check. That’s what I call a yuletide win, so check-check.

The Mermaids have baked lovely Christmas cookies that will go wonderfully with the rum in my diaper. And everyone has voted to veto caroling since Pirate Doug has a singing voice that can kill… literally. The present exchange would be ruined if everyone was dead. Could my days be merrier or brighter? Uh, no. Check.

It seems I have everything under control and Christmas on Mystical Isle will be unforgettable, or I’m not the Well-Hung God of the Sea, Poseidon.
And I am. Check.

                             MY REVIEW
Well it is Christmas time on Mystical Isle and who better to get everything ready for the girls and their mates . Poseidon well he isn't the best person or should i say God to do the job but he is sure trying. From pilfering ugly christmas sweaters to decorating the palm trees  what could go wrong . Well if you know Poseidon things never go as planned . Things always go awry. Oh and for an added pressure there is a surprise guest or two that will be making an appearance to the island . Will the gang have a Merry Christmas or will Poseidon ruin it like always .

Poseidon and the gang are back , I absolutely love this cast of characters . They are so well written and hilariously inappropriate . Poseidon  what can we say about the diaper wearing drunk . He commanders this book as he takes on Christmas . He is hilarious and well really not so smart in some things but that's what make you love him . Pirate Doug and the girls are back and trying to stop his Christmas decorating . Trust me guys you will love these characters they are inappropriate and crude .

This is such a fun read , you will laugh your butt off . The author takes us on a fun filled Christmas story of love and laughter . This book so reminds me of christmas's with any family out there . We all have that uncle that just is boisterous and loud . We have sisters and brother n laws that really just get on your nerves . But you love them and their antics . This is a fun story that will have you laughing all the way through . So if you want a great read for you weekend check it out . You will be laughing all night long .

Her freedom at stake, she turns to the Goddess Scorpio to grant her the strength to defeat her enemies and protect her young daughter. However, Scorpio has greater gifts in mind for her steadfast loyalty.

                           MY REVIEW
Freya Aldana has been on the run for twelve years . There are people coming after her a druid with powers that are coveted by most . She is being hunted by Gregory Kander an influential magic trafficker.  With the help of her old flame and some fellow escapees . Freya is out to figure out what Gregory wants with her .She turns to the Goddess Scorpio to help keep her and her daughter safe . But things aren't always what they seem and sometimes greater gifts are bestowed for the loyalty of one person

Freya is one of those characters that you can't help but love . She is a tough woman who will do anything to keep her daughter safe . She is a special woman with special powers that people want to steal . I truly liked her and what ends she would go to so that she can keep her child safe. These characters are very well written and complex you will totally cheer for Freya and the rest of the escapees . You will wish nothing but pain for Gregory Kander .

This is a very interesting read , I got sucked in by the end of the second chapter . The characters you will love or hate and the story flows very well . It shows the lengths a mother would do to keep her daughter safe and stop the trafficking of supernatural . This author as proven herself as a good story teller and I really can't wait to see what happens in the rest of the trilogy . There are just a couple of spots that kind of dragged just a little . It didn't hurt the story any and over all I really enjoyed the story . So if you want a great story check it out .

WELCOME TO THURSDAY

Welcome to the first Thursday of 2020. I hope everyone had a great Christmas season . Today I have a new author for you . THE GEM OF MERUNA by Elixis Bell

                            BOOK BLURB

Having lived beneath the rule of a vicious dictator all her life, Kiluna is no stranger to hardship. And yet, she holds hope. Her grandmother’s tales of peaceful times, together with whisperings of a magical Gem hidden away on their sister planet, Meruna, buoyed her spirits even in the most dire times.
Everyone has a breaking point though, and Kiluna is no different. After the brutal murder of her grandmother, she can stand it no longer. She sets off, determined to free her people, even if it means venturing through mysterious forests inhabited by outlaws. Soon, she finds that one in particular may be a danger to her heart, tempting her with a peaceful life. But she must go, for only one thing is powerful enough to save her people…
The Gem of Meruna.

                      MY REVIEW
Kiluna has had enough , she has been living under a vicious dictator for her entire life . The only hope that she has is the stories that her grandmother has told her about a peaceful time .  The tales of a gem in the sister planet of Meruna . When her grandmother is murdered she sets off to find the gem . Soon she finds the forests of outlaws where peace is great one outlaw is tempting her heart with the peace of the forest . She is torn does she stay or go and find the gem.

The characters in this story are really well written . Kulina is a tough girl who wants to have peace in her life finally. She is tough but also sweet . The outlaws give off the feels of Robin hood and his band of men. They give off the peacefulness that Kulina is looking for . All the characters that come and go are very well written and add to the story .

This story is a rollercoaster ride that will keep you on the edge of your seat most of the way through .  You will get caught up in the plight of Kulina and trust me you will want to wrap her up in a warm blanket and hug her a few times through out this book.  The story has the feeling of Robin Hood and good triumphs over evil . The only down side i found in this book is that it seemed to drag just a little in some areas . Over all this is a really good book and it is a great story that will keep you entertained . Give this book a chance and add it to your list for the new year .
