Good afternoon peeps, it is the second to last book of the reader round up. It is another new author to me K.C Rice and her political thriller romance SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY.
BOOK BLURB
Lieutenant Colonel Sawyer Blackburn, a Marine sniper battling trauma, returns home after deployment and is caught in a dangerous government conspiracy. Her brother Cooper, an investigative journalist, is murdered; Sawyer discovers files implicating top officials—including the Vice President—in a covert oil deal with China. Sawyer’s quest for vengeance and truth brings her into a fraught alliance—and complicated romance—with FBI Special Agent Reece Atwood. Together, they navigate a labyrinth of political cover-ups, assassinations of public officials, and mounting evidence of a government-wide betrayal. As bodies pile up, including Cooper’s best friends, high-level cabinet members, and foreign operatives, Sawyer’s military skills and relentless determination make her both a target and a weapon.
MY REVIEW
Lieutenant Colonel Sawyer Blackburn is fighting trauma of a world that she left as a sniper and the death of her brother, Cooper. She is fighting the top of the government to find out who murdered him in front of her. Going through his files she finds a corrupt oil deal with China and when FBI agent Reece Atwood comes into the picture things get really really complicated when they start a relationship. Together they work the case and find political cover ups and assassinations of public figures, including Cooper's friends it is going to take everything Sawyer has to figure it out.
Sawyer is one tough cookie , her military career has had her in some tight spots and she has had to do some horrible things . She is tough but she is lonely since her brother has died. She has one mission. Reece is a veteran FBI agent and he is tough as nails by the book but there is also a loneliness to him that can't be denied . Working too many cases and feelings of pressure just add to his fierceness of figuring out who did it. When these two characters come together the sparks fly and they can't deny the chemistry that is between them. They ignite the pages .
This book is a real page turner, the mystery alone is a great read but add the romance and it just gets hotter. i will admit it does end on a cliff hanger that kind of made me frustrated . The author does takes on a roller coaster ride and keeps the tension tight so you are on the edge of your seat most of the time . This would be a good book for your lazy summer days in the hammock.
